LOW DEFECTS, GOOD COMPATIBILITY
Niax silicone L-6638 is an excellent choice to consider in rigid polyurethane foams manufactured with a continuous lamination process. A premium silicone copolymer, Niax silicone L-6638 generally offers very low defect surface quality, in combination with high polyol solubility, making it a suitable option for rigid-faced lamination formulations in insulation and construction applications. Other potential applications may include fix-gap lamination with a fixed or traversing head on metal sheets, gastight facings, or wherever durability and aesthetics demand low surface defects.
Because Niax silicone L-6638 can reduce cell coalescence during foaming and under high shear-stress conditions, fewer foam defects are formed at the foam-substrate interface, and at high overpacking conditions. The typical result is a wider processing window, improved panels flatness, better foam compression strength and dimensional stability while maintaining fine cells and reducing foam anisotropy. This also makes it an excellent choice to consider for block and discontinuous processes, in addition to rigid polyurethane foams manufactured with a continuous lamination process.
Niax silicone L-6638 offers excellent foam-surface quality in foams produced by continuous lamination, foams that are pentane blown, and foams with both polyurethane and polyisocyanurate chemistry. This may allow for the use of thinner facings. It also generally has the ability to retain good foam quality when n-pentane is the blowing agent, particularly in high levels. In addition, Niax silicone L-6638 can be water blown or used with hydrofluorocarbons.
