Long-Term Heat stability – Self-Lubrication
Silopren LSR 3366/50 is able to withstand the demands of elevated temperatures trending today with increased electrical load requirements, many of which are reaching T4, and even T5, as outlined in the SAE USCAR-2 Specification, and becoming the new “norm.” For example, BEV’s cable & connection resistance values are a driving force in these increasing service temperatures, among others. As a direct result, new expectations for vehicle reliability and service life have driven more stringent specifications, two key components of which are long-term sealing force and temperature stability. The ability to withstand elevated temperatures while maintaining the compressive stress allows Silopren LSR technologies to maintain high sealing forces over the application’s lifetime.
While exhibiting physical and molding properties and characteristics similar to the broadly specified Silopren LSR 3286/50, the new Silopren LSR 3366/50 however, demonstrates ultra-low compression set characteristics that allow it to meet SAE/USCAR-2 Specification Temperature Classifications T4 and T5. Standard self-lubricating LSR technologies generally exhibit a long term compression set at elevated temperatures (175°C) in the range of >75% when tested to 1008 hours. In comparison, Silopren LSR 3366/50 has been shown to exhibit ultra-low compression set properties, achieving a value of <40% when tested at 175°C for 1008 hours.1 As such, Silopren LSR 3366/50 offers the sought-after reliability dictated by applications that will be exposed to long-term, high heat service environments.
Silopren LSR 3366/50 can generally be processed utilizing conventional LSR injection molding equipment, and attain its cured physical properties without the need for post-curing or abrasive filler technologies or additives introduced via the color line. Silopren LSR 3366 technology is whitish in the materials natural state and can be easily pigmented with LSR color-pastes without impacting sealing performance.
Vulcanizates consisting of Silopren LSR 3366/50 liquid silicone rubber are typically distinguished by the following properties:
Potential applications for Silopren LSR 3366/50 liquid silicone rubber include wire harnesses for the following elastomeric articles:
