New Home Ground Breaking Ceremony for Disabled Veteran

The Makers of GE Silicone Support The

“Step Up To Help a Hero” Program at Home Depot™

Merrick, N.Y. (September 5, 2014)-- The makers of GE-branded silicone are helping to bring the gift of a mortgage-free home to wounded veteran USMC Corporal, Kevin Vaughan. Through a partnership with Building Homes for Heroes® (BHFH) and Home Depot™, the “Step Up to Help A Hero” campaign will support efforts to build and remodel houses for veterans with disabilities just like Corporal Vaughan across the country. The Vaughan house ground breaking ceremony will take place Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 in Merrick, N.Y.  Corporal Vaughan sustained multiple injuries when his vehicle struck an IED in Afghanistan. Attending the ceremony will be Andy Pujol, the founder and CEO of Building Homes for Heroes, Kate Murray, Hempstead Town Supervisor, local clergy and Corporal Vaughan and his family.

Momentive Performance Materials Inc. the manufacturer and exclusive licensee of GE Silicone Products has launched an in-store campaign to help veterans injured during the time of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The multi-platform program is being launched at over 600 Home Depot™ stores nationwide.

This initiative provides support to veterans in four ways:

  1. Proceeds donation: 50 cents will be donated to BHFH® for every tube of GE Silicone II* caulk sold at Home Depot.
  2. Consumer pledges: Shoppers will be encouraged to make donations by texting HELPBHH to 41444 or visiting www.buildinghomesforheroes.org.
  3. Product donations: GE Silicone II caulk will be donated to BHFH® for retrofitting and construction of the homes.
  4. Volunteer support: Consumers will be urged to email info@buildinghomesforheroes.org to find out more about volunteer opportunities at BHFH® building sites.

“We are thrilled to have the support and donations from Momentive,” said Chad Gottlieb, Director of Construction Development for BHFH. “Anybody, whether they are a do-it yourselfer, or a contractor, can help our cause - simply by walking into their local Home Depot and purchasing GE Silicone II* caulk. Momentive believes in what we are doing and puts their support behind Corporal Vaughan and other disabled veterans just like him.”

BHFH will build or modify a minimum of 25 homes in 2014, and expects to increase that number to 35 to 40 homes in 2015 with the help of Momentive and supportive volunteers.
