Momentive Performance Materials to Present Innovation-Enabling Silicone Technologies at FAKUMA 2011

ALBANY, N.Y., October 12, 2011 — Momentive Performance Materials Inc., a leading global provider of silicones and advanced materials, will announce the addition of a number of new products to its versatile portfolio of silicone elastomers at the FAKUMA international trade fair for plastics processing, which will be held October 18-22 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

“Our silicone technology platform is boosting innovation across a variety of plastics applications,” said Holger Albrecht, Global Business Director, Elastomers, at Momentive Performance Materials. “From automotive to healthcare products, our science-based solutions are targeted at helping customers improve product performance and durability, solve product development issues and build better manufacturing processes.”

The following products and technologies will be featured at the Momentive Performance Materials booth (Hall A4, #4217) at FAKUMA:

• New liquid silicone rubber (LSR) products for high performance connectors – ultra-low compression set, oil-bleeding LSR grades for next generation high performance mat seals. Silopren* LSR 3696/20 (6% oil) with 20 Shore A hardness and Silopren LSR 3596/35 (5% oil) with 35 Shore A hardness are excellent candidates to consider for use in electrical connector seals, including mat-seal applications with design complexities.
• Next generation of oil-resistant LSRs – based on Momentive’s latest LSR technology. Silopren LSR 2171 is a mineral filled 70 Shore A hardness grade with low compression set and good tear resistance. Potential applications include a variety of oil-seals and anti-drainback valves in the automotive segment.
• New textile coatings – solvent free, addition curable Room Temperature Vulcanisate (RTV) and LSR products that can be considered for use in a variety of consumer, industrial and healthcare textile coating applications. Typical benefits include water repellency, high chemical resistance, good adhesion and high elongation, weatherability and low ageing, potential suitability for food and skin contact applications, and ease of processing.
• Ultraviolet (UV) cure technology platform for elastomers – Momentive’s proprietary, advanced technology that typically offers shorter cure times at low temperatures while maintaining the physical properties of a typical silicone. The diverse product offering ranges from extrusion and molding materials to silicone gels. This platform technology can be considered for new opportunities for co-extrusion with thermally sensitive materials, such as low temperature thermoplastics.
• Silopren LSRs – used for highly productive, precision injection molding. Silopren LSRs are excellent candidates for a wide range of applications, including automotive, consumer goods, food and beverage, healthcare, high voltage insulation, household appliances and solar. The Silopren family of LSR products is a culmination of 30 years of science-based innovation.
• StatSil* antimicrobial elastomers – an award winning, patent pending technology for silver-based antimicrobial high consistency rubber (HCR) and LSR products, which can be used in healthcare and consumer goods applications that can benefit from built-in antimicrobial protection. StatSil elastomers can be custom formulated to meet specific performance and processing requirements of various devices and components.
