The hallmark properties of silicones – unusually low viscosity at high molecular weight and very low interfacial tensions – characterize Momentive’s basic fluids and help lead to benefits such as low-temperature fluidity, excellent lubricity, high surface activity and remarkable spreading or penetration. Equally important is the stability of these properties. When subjected to high or low temperatures, high pressures, or prolonged shearing action, these fluids typically experience negligible changes in viscosity, thermal, dielectric and other key properties, especially in comparison to other types of fluids used in similar applications.
Our Element14* brand offers a large portfolio of these basic silicone fluids; and other brands, such as our Silsoft* and Formasil* brands, include basic fluids among their grades. Excellent thermo-oxidative stability and chemical resistance, along with the benefits mentioned above, make our basic fluids excellent candidates for applications across many markets, including:
Among their many useful properties, our basic fluids typically exhibit good dielectric strength, volume resistivity, dielectric constant and dissipation factor, which are little affected by temperatures over a wide range. Similarly, frequencies from 102 to 107 Hertz do not affect the dielectric constant or dissipation factor.
Our basic fluids are also virtually impervious to climatic change and, when properly stored, they typically exhibit no precipitates, changes in color or pH changes. Furthermore, they typically do not require special packaging or handling due to their low vapor pressure, pour point and inertness to packaging materials.
Discover how our basic fluids may enhance and stabilize your next product formulation or application.
