Engine noise and automotive component vibrations are not things you want to hear when you go for a ride in your vehicle. Having an elastomeric coating added to your components is an excellent way to reduce NVH – noise, vibration and harshness – as well as to provide resistance against underbody chips. Both SPUR+* 3030 prepolymer and CoatOSil* DRI waterborne silicone resin are excellent candidates for these applications.
SPUR+ 3030 prepolymer is an excellent candidate for formulating waterproof membranes, and is used to enable a wide application window and excellent fully cured properties including tear, UV and water resistance.
CoatOSil DRI waterborne silicone can help reduce water uptake and improve UV resistance in organic waterborne coating compositions. The chemical structure of this silicone drivesits ability to overcome the difficulties of combining silicone materials with organic waterborne resins.
CoatOSil DRI waterborne silicone has been shown to improve hydrophobicity and elongation properties when used as a co-binder with acrylic latexes, resulting in more flexible coatings and sealants. It can also be considered as a sole binder when maximum thermal and UV stability is a priority. When applied alone, CoatOSil DRI waterborne silicone cures at room temperature to form an elastomeric film.
Silane-terminated polyurethanes have become increasingly attractive to manufacturers of adhesives, sealants and coatings. This high-performance hybrid technology is a result of the synergy between the silane-curing mechanism and polyurethane backbone properties. Formulations based on SPUR+ prepolymers offer fast room-temperature cure and good durability, and allow the sealants or adhesives incorporating them to be free of unreacted isocyanate. Typical benefits include freedom from bubbling during cure and a broadening of the formulation latitude compared to most conventional polyurethane technologies. SPUR+ prepolymers can allow the formulator the use of a wide variety of additives and adhesion promoters to meet performance needs, including:
- Good elasticity and durability
- Primerless adhesion to organic and inorganic, porous and non-porous substrates
- Outstanding chemical resistance, such as to automotive fluids (e.g. glycols, motor and transmission fluids)
- Minimal shrinkage
- Excellent weatherability
- Immediate paintability
- Non-staining of porous substrates
- Compatibility with clear adhesives
- Low VOC-formulated products
